Computer Overheating and Troubleshoot CPU slowdown
The Processors are the brain of computers. All operations on the computer are carried out in the CPU centers of the processors. CPU units are units that can run at tremendous speeds and can overheat. The most hot hardware in a computer is the external graphics card and the CPU unit. Well, have you ever thought of slowing down the CPU unit in processors?
What advantages and disadvantages do we get as a result of CPU slowdown?
If your computer is overheating and you want to fix it, please be patient and read this post thoroughly. In this content, the heating problem caused by the processor will be explained and the solution will be shown in detail. Thanks to this content, you will have found a remarkable solution to the heating problem on your computer.
The heavier the operations you perform on the computer, the hotter your device will be. If the computer is overheating, it will give you a bad performance. You may encounter instantaneous performance problems and error reports due to this heat. To prevent such situations and to offer a real solution to the computer overheating problem, you can lower the CPU voltage setting. CPU running at low voltage setting will heat up less. It is extremely easy to do the voltage drop operation. You can lower the voltage setting of your CPU unit with a small software called Throttlestop .
If your computer overheats, its performance will noticeably decrease. For example, if you get 80 FPS performance value while playing a game and after a certain time (for example, after 20-30 minutes) this value drops to 40-50 FPS, your device may be experiencing an overheating problem.
Similarly, sudden fps drops and drops in games can also be caused by overheating. We have previously used the software called Throttlestop, which we mentioned in this content, in the content titled Sudden FPS Drop Problem and Solution. However, if you do not know about the heating of your computer, you should test it. You read this article completely with deep eyes.
CPU slowdown and voltage drop
We mentioned that all the processes on your computer are handled by the CPU. The higher voltage this unit is fed, the faster it tries to be. It also gets so hot. All these are directly proportional. Therefore, increasing the voltage value of the CPU unit can damage your processor. Processors accelerated by overclocking need more power and heat up more.
However, similarly, reducing the voltage value given by the CPU unit will not harm your processor. Provided you don't overdo it, of course. I don't know exactly what will happen if you drop the voltage too much.
Again, I don't think your computer will be permanently damaged, but there will be an unstable performance problem. Apart from all these, you will encounter the most blue screen errors. But don't see it as a problem.
If you reduce the voltage value of your processor, the heating problem will be reduced to the same extent. Of course, the heating problem of the computer is not only dependent on the voltage value fed to the processor. Aging and completely drying of the thermal paste in the computer, dusting of the fans in the computer and inability to work as before, dusting of the hardware and connections in the computer, clogging of the ventilation channels cause the device to heat up completely.
Regardless of these, we will definitely focus on producing a realistic solution for the computer heating problem by reducing the voltage value. If you lower the voltage value of the processor, the warming of your device will decrease as well. It will also extend the battery life.
In addition, when you reduce the CPU voltage value, you can get better performance in games instead of getting worse performance. Since you have brought a serious solution to your computer's overheating problem, your system will run more stable and stable.
Throttlestop usage and features
You can click here to install the Throttlestop software. We recommend that you install the stable version of the software via this link. After installing and running the software, a small window will welcome you as seen in the image below.
Now, let's find out what the options and buttons in the window appearing in the image above are and what they do. I tell about that, what you do with this small software. The software features include various options and features that also concern CPU units developed with very old technology. However, we will take a look at the options that are more relevant to modern technology.
Disable Turbo:
Each CPU unit has a base clock speed and a turbo clock speed. For example, in an ordinary process, the CPU can run at a base clock speed of 2.4 GHz. For more demanding tasks, it can run at 3.6 GHz by switching to turbo mode. In other words, the processors work much faster thanks to the turbo feature.
However, this causes the processor to heat up and use more power. Therefore, by disabling the Turbo feature, the CPU unit can be prevented from exceeding the base clock speed.
BD Prochot:
A feature that slows down the CPU unit when your computer gets too hot. It is usually activated when the temperature reaches 100 degrees. Although the GPU unit is in high-end hardware, it is a feature that slows down the CPU when high temperatures are reached under all conditions.
Speed Shift:
After 2016, Intel released this feature that helps CPU respond to changes in clock speed set by software. If this option appears in the Throttlestop software, make sure to tick it.
SpeedStep:
If you are using an Intel processor developed and released prior to 2016, you will see this option instead of Speed Shift. If this feature appears in the software, make sure it is checked.
C1E: This feature saves battery. You can enable this feature for longer battery life on a single charge. In other words, you can activate this feature when your device is not plugged in. So the software turns the kernels on and off according to the degree of strain.
However, do not enable this feature while your device is plugged in. You will not need this feature while the computer is plugged in.
Reducing CPU voltage using Throttlestop
Now, let's take a look at the part that appears in the upper left after opening the software. These are options that allow you to switch between different profiles, each of which may have its own voltage settings. When creating a profile for the game, you can change the first tab that appears with the name of performance to "Game" or save it as "Performance".
Now we will click on the Fivr button in the lower right. A new window will open here. In this window, tick the " Unlock Adjustable Voltage " box.
Then, let's lower the " Offset Voltage " pointer just below it to -100 mV.
Then click on the CPU Cache section in the " FIVR Control " section and set it to the same voltage value. The CPU core and CPU cache should always be at the same voltage.
After completing the above operations, click the Apply button and apply all the operations to your processor. Then test your processor again. Monitor your processor's temperature values by playing various games. You can also monitor the temperature values from the main page of the software.
If your system continues to run stably, that is, if your computer does not show a blue screen error – your computer may display a blue screen error while changing these options. This is quite normal, don't worry - you can continue to lower the CPU Cache and CPU Core voltage in -10 mV reductions. If your system crashes – that is, if you encounter a blue screen error – open the Throttlestop software after restarting your computer and set the Offset Voltage to its original value.
This way you can discover the best limit for your processor. For example, for the Intel i7-6700HQ CPU unit, voltage reduction to -150 mV can be performed without any problems. However, all these vary according to processor models.
After you're done, you can click the Apply button to apply the final adjustments to your processor and click the OK button to save these settings – in the tab that was originally selected on the ThrottleStop home page.
When you come back to the main page of the software, instead of keeping the application open each time, click the Turn On button at the bottom so that all the adjustments you have made will become active. This will keep your settings active.
However, you may need to run the software again to activate these settings when your computer is restarted or turned off and on. In order to overcome this problem and keep the settings constantly active, you need to use the Windows Task Scheduler service.
Thanks to these applications and methods, the temperature of a computer that reached 90 degrees was reduced to 70 - 75 degrees.
However, if your computer is getting too hot, you can change the thermal paste of your computer, check the air inlets and outlets and clean the fan.
With all these explained, you can produce a realistic and effective solution for CPU slowdown and computer overheating problem.
