Windows 10 high memory usage problem and solution

Many Windows 10 users face the same issues. This problem that many people experience is called " high memory usage ". High memory usage may be related to the operating system of your computer, or it may be caused by the application you are running on the computer. What is Ram?

Computers or smartphones have RAM memories. These memories store various data. However, it does not permanently store data like SDD or HDD storage units. In short, we can say that RAM is temporary and fast working memory. When the processor on your computer or phone will perform an operation, it refers to the RAM memory.

Operations are performed with the data retrieved from this memory. Therefore, the capacity of RAM memories is much lower than fixed storage units. They also do not store data permanently. However, they work much faster than fixed storage units.

Therefore, low or insufficient RAM memory on smart phones, computers or a different device causes the system to slow down. Devices with low RAM memory or with insufficient RAM memory after a while boot slower than before. An application running at the same time will open late and the application may not perform well.

High Memory Usage Problem & Solution

The high memory usage issue is an annoying issue that many users experience. It is first noticed in the memory section of the performance tab when the task manager is started on the computer. Memory usage in this tab is very high. This situation is sometimes observed when any application or game is run, and sometimes when the system is idle.

As many conscious users are aware, the problems of the Windows 10 operating system are endless. Both the misconfiguration of the operating system and the problems that arose with the update are incessant. These problems are primarily caused by the core of the Windows 10 operating system. The high memory usage problem is also caused by a misconfiguration in the operating system.

Below I will show you step-by-step solutions for the Windows 10 high memory usage problem. You can get rid of high memory usage problem by following these solutions. This solution method is completely reliable for computers with Windows 10 operating system.

Close Unnecessary Programs and Applications That You are Not Using

Your computer's memory is dependent on CPU and RAM. However, the high memory usage problem on your computer depends on the programs and applications that are installed and running in the background. For this reason, you should close the programs that you do not need on your computer instantly.

For this, start the Task Manager . Then click on the programs you do not use and click the End task button. You will see that the memory usage rate decreases after you close the programs you do not need. If there are programs on your computer that you do not use or do not need, please permanently remove those programs from your device.

Clean Up Your Disks, Which are Your Computer's Storage Areas

Your computer's storage areas, namely disks, are hardware that seriously affect the performance of applications and programs. The capacity of unnecessary files on these hardware seriously affects the memory performance of your computer.

  • Temporary files
  • System files
  • Thumbnails
  • Memory dump files
  • Previous Windows update
  • Packages,
As well as recycle bin information are stored here.

All this takes up a lot of space on your computer over time. Windows 10 operating system has a small feature in itself that cleans all these junk files. You can get rid of all unnecessary files using this feature.

First, let's clean the local disk where your operating system is installed. This disk is known as “C://” on almost every computer. Right click on this disk. Then click Properties . Then you will see the window shown in the image below. Here , click on the Disk Cleanup button.

After clicking the Clean Disk button, you will be presented with a summary of the files to be cleaned. Among these options that consume the most space are temporary Internet files , program installed , delivery optimizations , and thumbnails

If you click on the Clean up system files button, you will see a cleanup area with more options. Here you can also see the old and remaining Windows updates. So you also can do more thorough cleaning.

Now, as seen in the image below, we mark all the options in the open window and click the OK button. Then in a small window we are asked to confirm this action again. After confirming, the cleaning process starts and we wait for this process to finish.

(On some computers, the cleaning process may take longer to complete.)

After the cleanup is complete, right-click on your local disk again and click Properties . Click the Optimize button on the Tools tab of the window that appears . This will perform the defragmentation on your disk. This way you will maintain the file layout and get a stable working operating system.

Finally, under this heading, we need to make sure that the disk quota is set to unlimited. In other words, we need to go to the Quota tab from the properties window and click on the Show Quota Settings button from there. In the next window, the disk usage should be selected as unlimited. All this can be seen in the image below.

Increase Virtual Memory in Windows 10

Type “ registry editor ” in the Windows search box and right click on this application and run as administrator. Then access the “ Ndu ” folder by following the path Computer \ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ ControlSet001 \ Services \ Ndu as seen in the image below.

Here , open Start and delete the value 2 in the small window that appears and type 4 . Then click the OK button.

After doing all this, your system will increase the virtual memory. The NDU mentioned here is a resource monitoring setting and can cause memory spikes when many applications are open. That's why we made all these adjustments under this heading.

Disable SysMain (Superfetch)

A service called SysMain (formerly Superfetch) is running on your Windows operating system. This will use up almost all of your unused memory after a while. It can make your computer dead. This service allows applications on your computer to run (open) much faster. Keeps applications ready to run. Turning this service off and then disabling it can speed up your computer.

To disable SysMain aka Superfetch service, open Task Manager . Click Services at the top . Then click the Open Services button at the bottom left. Find SysMain here . Right click and click Properties .

Click the Stop button at the bottom . Then click Disabled from the drop- down box at the top . Click the Apply / OK button.

Optimize Windows startup

Open task manager. Then go to the Startup tab at the top. Disable the applications that you do not use in the list that appears here. However, we recommend that you do not disable audio applications. Otherwise, you can disable your computer sound.

By disabling applications that run directly at computer startup, you can increase the boot speed of your computer and reduce the extra load on the RAM memory.

Increasing the RAM

As a result of the operations done so far, you may not have achieved a noticeable performance increase. If you still do not have a stable operating system, you can increase your RAM memory.

These are the solutions we can offer you for the "Memory 100 problem Windows 10" problem of many people on the Internet. Windows 10 memory problem is a common problem especially when playing games. CPU usage can reach 100 while you are playing games, you may experience high memory usage problem.
