Is the Metaverse a Dump?
Let's say in a simple way; Microsoft has its own metaverse, Facebook too... And it turns out; An outfit bought from one cannot be worn in another universe. Then will it be necessary to buy clothes separately for each universe? Whichever way you look at it, it will take 15-20 years for this metaverse to reach a point or mature.
Kaeducator/ Khadam Ali, All of the metaverse universes that have been written, drawn, spoken and announced every day are like this. Yes, I won't be able to wear an outfit I bought from one of them on another, because no universe will work with another, and no company is looking forward to it. Almost every day, a company announces its metaverse universe, makes two videos and shows a "game" with a five-minute demo, and they jokingly call it "metaverse".
Unfortunately, people who have mastered the subject in world by researching and watching an event directly without learning, have a lot of knowledge about the metaverse as well as about every subject. As such, we will tell you the facts of this dump at jet speed and what the metaverse is, how it is and how it cannot be. Before entering, we would like to point out that the concept we call the metaverse is a decentralized universe. It is somewhat similar to blockchain technology as well.
When you've read or watched these metaverse threads, you've probably seen a lot of talk about blockchain. To date, so many technologies have been announced, launched, but shelved before reaching the end consumer because users were not quite ready. For now, it looks like this blockchain will be the same.
You may remember in the early 2000s, there were many discourses such as "the future of our internet world", "everything will be internet", ".com addresses are very important and huge returns will be obtained with these addresses". Which did it, but for the internet to get to the point mentioned there, we first had to see broadband connection become widespread and go to everyone's homes for free or at very reasonable prices. Secondly, we expected that the internet connection speeds of GSM technology, that is, mobile phone technology, would increase. Third, mobile phones had to evolve into smartphones and tablets.
CHANGE IT NOW...
In other words, it took 15 years for us to get a full benefit from this internet world. When the first smartphone of the Apple brand, the iPhone 3, was released, it could not shoot video yet.
There are so many examples that these technologies have risen, crashed and shelved, that we can no longer say "Wow, very good technology" to every emerging technology. For Bitcoin, when it came out of the DarkWeb and entered the market, they said technology, new currency, etc. that would change the world when it was first heard; It's been seven or eight years, now change it...
As another simple example, let's take VR technology four or five years ago... Unity made VR, then Facebook bought Oculus. Everyone said, "Wow, great technology, it's brilliant." Samsung then announced the VR glasses, a few famous production companies made special films to expand the VR market, but because it did not reach the end consumer, because everyone lasted for a maximum of five minutes, and because they could not innovate, VR technology suddenly went down and nobody cares. It didn't happen. Then they said "HTC company will save VR technology", then there is no company named HTC. Trying to turn this event in its favor, Microsoft announced HoloLens, we came across a video, where is that product? His name is never mentioned.
Google has taken things a step further and announced that it will bring this virtual reality to a regular optical glasses, but we only have Google glass video. Five years have passed. What happened to all these technologies? It disappeared in an instant…
To explain the subject a little more, Bitcoin is a technology product just like this VR. Two technologies that are both emerging and exciting. Bitcoin maintained its height for the first period, then crashed, then passed again in the rising period. It can be thought that it will fall again in the future, but it will continue to exist in the next rise, but on the VR side, a constant heart massage is done, all companies try not to lose their investments to keep the market alive with the perception operation in order not to damage their investments, purchases or products they have released so far. .
This being the case, a tech job may need to be a little cold if there is VR. Unfortunately, it's not very interesting.
WEB 3.0 TECHNOLOGY DOESN'T ARRIVE
As for the metaverse, it will be exactly one year since Facebook announced the metaverse universe in September. The company believed in this business so much that it even changed its name to Meta to convince others. Almost a year has passed and we still have a video and some companies deceiving MMO games as metaverses. There is neither a universe nor a universe. No company even came close to it because Web 3.0 technology does not exist yet to become a metaverse.
Whichever way you look at it, it will take 15-20 years for this metaverse to reach a point or mature. It is not necessary to think that it is necessary to get so excited about the technology in this period, because all of the big technology companies that want to create these universes are in pursuit of centralizing a decentralized system. There is no such technology yet, it just has a name. There are fights about it.
The concept of metaverse, which Facebook came up with when it changed its name, and then the fact that many companies came out and said, "We will split our own meta universe", has now gotten out of hand.
You have noticed; Real blockchainists and people who actually code this business do not directly say metaverse, they say Web 3.0... These software developers; They oppose everything, this metaverse concept that Meta and other companies have brought or are trying to bring.
For example, in 2020, Facebook announced that it would launch a new cryptocurrency called Libra, Libra took its place among the coins that sank on the date of its release, many fake websites before Facebook sold these coins, and Bitcoin's trust problems at that time. It took its place on the shelf of unsuccessful projects due to its survival.
INTEROPERABILITY PROBLEM
We know; The biggest problem with these metaverse concepts is solving the problem of "interoperability" within their own worlds of the people who do this coding. The simplest is to use your shoes in a metaverse universe in another universe. All blockchain coding and people trying to create the metaverse universe focus on solving this problem. But none of the big companies want to approach this issue, because why?
If we give an example from Facebook; It creates a world of its own from scratch, invests billions of dollars in R&D, incorporates new start-up companies, develops products, but a user comes out and says; "I'm going to wear my shoes in the microsoft universe in the metaverse universe of Meta," he says. Of course, this event It is a direct blow to a company's internal economy. No company accepts this.
What was said when Web 2.0 technology first came out; At the end of the day, it has become a technology where algorithms decode your mindsets and create advertisements that suit you. It has turned to a technology method where big tech companies make more money.
Not too long ago, what was said when was announced, but remember the 4G technology advertisements. A man in Taksim Square was watching the match on his phone, everyone said it's super technology again, he suddenly said, 'it's on the rise', but right now the whole world is using 4G technology. How many of us are watching the match on the phone? Yes, we have the technology to monitor this, but there is no platform to monitor it. When we say internet quota, speed problem, etc., 'rise was a lie' again. Technology exists, but companies don't let you access it.
Okay, this blockchain might be technically accomplishing great things, we totally agree, you're 100 percent right, but we don't think that capitalism will allow us to enter our lives and hang out comfortably now, as it has never been before.
NO ONE CARES IN EUROPE
Another interesting issue should be mentioned... Metaverse and Web 3.0 are an important topic in Turkey's agenda, especially among young people who are technology followers, but in Europe nobody cares, everyone made fun of Facebook's new name and the issue is closed. . Let's say something even more interesting, when the internet first came out, it came out because it was decentralized. The US military first built it to be decentralized.
They said what happens with IPv6 technology. In 2004, IPv4 was being used, companies said that we did not have enough IP, there is no IP. In the documents in Microsoft cURL training, it is explained that 1500 IPs per square meter will be reduced with IPv6 technology. They told us that the 6th version of IP will fly that much. The year is 2022, companies are still turning off IPv6 and using IPv4.
