What Is "Run as Administrator" in Windows?

 If you are using a computer with a Windows operating system, you must have encountered the Run as administrator option. What is run as administrator natively? You may have wondered about the answer to the question and what it means to run an application with administrator permissions. We cover this question with answer in this article.

Administrator role has full system access

1. Administrator Account 

There are two different types of accounts in the Windows operating system. These are standard user accounts and administrative user accounts. The administrator account, you can rearrange your system's settings and gain access to restricted parts of your operating system in this way.

The administrator role, you can make various changes to your operating system. If you are using a personal computer that is only yours, you are probably using the Windows operating system as an administrator account.

You can check your account by going to Settings > Accounts tab and find out which account type you use. If your user account is an administrator account, you will already see the administrator option in the window you reach. For example, in the image below, e-mail and account type information can be seen under the account name. Here it is understood that the account is an administrator account.

2. User Account 

If you have other user accounts on your computer and you are wondering what type of account these accounts are, you can still access the information you want from the Family > Accounts > Family and other users tab.

What does means in apps "Run with Administrator Permission"?

Your account in the Windows operating system can be an administrator account. However, this does not mean that all apps in your account have administrator permission. At the same time, not all applications need administrator permission.

For example, the browser software you use to visit any website on the Internet should not have full access to the operating system. User Account Control limits the permissions an application can have that you launch from an account in the administrator role.

However, when the application you have installed on your device does not work properly, it should be run as an administrator. Because some applications need more access rights on your operating system in order to work. Therefore, these applications must be run with administrative privileges.

An application running with administrator rights has more access rights to your operating system than other applications. Naturally, the thing to consider here is which application you give administrator permission to.

In short, running with administrator permission means giving access to areas in the operating system that you have not given access to.

You give this right to every application you use by right-clicking and running as administrator. Running an application with the Run as administrator option is not risky, except for malware. However, running malicious programs as an administrator can put your device and you at serious risk.

What is Run apps as administrator?

Denying administrator permissions can cause problems when doing a definition inside your file system. Similarly, it can create problems when configuring storage devices. Not granting administrator permission while changing the settings of an attached device may prevent the application/device from installing/working properly.

If an application you have installed is not working properly, enable the "run as administrator" option for that application. To do this, right-click the application and click run with administrator permissions. You can also give this permission by default so that you don't do the same action every time for this permission.

Running the application as administrator for all user accounts 

There may be more than one user on your computer. One of these users can be an administrator account and the others can be standard accounts. You can request apps to run with admin permission, including admin account and all other accounts. If you want the application or applications on your computer to run with administrator permission on all accounts, you can perform the following configuration. 

To do this configuration, right click on the application you want to run with administrator permission on all user accounts and click properties. Now on the compatibility tab  , you can check the Run this program as administrator box. Then click on the Change settings for all users button.
