FPS Stabilization in Games (Do not overheat your computer)
In some games, your computer may perform at a high level and allow you to play the game extremely fluently. However, while you are playing the game, the temperature value on your computer may increase to the maximum level.
If the temperature of the graphics card and CPU is between 80-100 degrees, it will most likely cause these hardware to burn in the future. Therefore, both the CPU and the graphics card temperature should be at low levels while playing games. Especially when playing games on laptop computers, the temperature of both hardware is at maximum level. At the same time, due to the heating problem, the video card of laptop computers fails much more easily than the video card of desktop computers.
Why Should I Fix FPS Value While Playing Games?
Let's assume that when your computer runs a game, it offers a smooth gaming experience of 150-200 FPS. However, to deliver this experience, your computer runs the graphics card and processor at peak performance. Therefore, high temperature causes the problem. Continuing this situation for a long time may cause the graphics card to burn in laptop computers in the long run.
Therefore, instead of using the video card at the maximum level to run the game at 150-200 FPS, you can save the video card performance and reduce the temperature value by running the game at 60 FPS.
According to this scenario;
I ran the DOOM game on a Dell G3 15 laptop with Full HD resolution, Intel i5-9300h processor, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card , 8 GB RAM memory .
At the highest graphics, I achieved a smooth game experience between 100 FPS and 150 FPS in the game. However, the GPU temperature was between 95 and 100 degrees. The temperature of 100 degrees is already the threshold for graphics cards. Therefore, keeping the graphics card at this temperature for a long time will result in hardware burnout in the long run.
Size/quality improvement is applied to the images uploaded to the website. Therefore, the quality of the image does not accurately reflect the appearance of the in-game graphics.
When I set the in-game FPS value to 60, the temperature value is around 85 degrees. In this way, I can make the computer warm less.
Fixing In-Game FPS
In some games, the fps stabilization feature for the game is offered as an option in the settings menu. For example, in the League of Legends game played by many people, this option is located in the settings. Therefore, you do not need to install any additional software or configuration work to fix the fps value while playing lol.
You can only fix the frame rate limit in the display options by clicking one of the available options. However, many games do not offer fps stabilization in the settings tab. That's why the fps value is fixed by a third-party software.
Follow the steps below to fix the in-game fps value and make the computer less warm;
- Install MSI Afterburner software on your device.
- Open the Riva Tuner Statistic icon on the taskbar.
- Set the Framerate limit option to 60 in the Riva Tuner Statistic window that opens .
Additionally, you can:
If you wish, you can change the Show on statistics option to On . In this way, you can see the FPS value and the performance statistics of the CPU and GPU unit on your screen while playing the game.
At the same time, you can determine how big or small these statistics will appear with the On-Screen Display zoom option.
By clicking the Add button, you can select the exe file that runs the game, and run each game in different settings. Or you can use global settings in all games.
- Run the game. FPS value will no longer go above the 60 limit you set. Thus, your computer will run the graphics card and processor at a lower level to provide high performance.
What else can I do to make the computer heat less while playing games?
Especially if you're using a laptop, you may want the computer to not get hot, or at least less than normal. You can fix the fps value to reduce the heating of the computer. In addition, you can set the battery usage to the balanced option instead of high performance in the power options, except for the FPS stabilization method in the games.
Apart from all these, you can do the following to make the device less warm;
You can purchase an external cooling system so that the computer does not overheat.
You can lower the voltage voltage of the CPU unit.
